An incident involving Tom Hanks "damaged" Jennette McCurdy while working with Ariana Grande.

In excerpts from his new memoir, McCurdy claims Nickelodeon treated him differently from Grande while filming "Sam & Cat," part of their hit shows "iCarly" and "Victorious."

While the "Sweetener" singer, 29, was allegedly allowed to focus on projects outside of children's shows, McCurdy, 30, said no.


McCurdy wrote in "I'm so glad my mom died." for each of The New York Times.

"That's when I broke up."

McCurdy details his tumultuous time at Nickelodeon in his new memoir, "I'm Glad My Mom Died."

“iCarly” ended its original run in 2012, and “Sam & Cat” only ran one season from 2013 to 2014.

McCurdy wrote that after leaving Nickelodeon, he turned down a $300,000 offer from the network that required him not to speak publicly about his experiences there.

A representative for Nickelodeon declined to comment to The Times.

McCurdy finally landed the lead role in the short-lived Netflix series “Between” by They chose to leave Hollywood altogether.

"My acting experience is that I'm so embarrassed by the parts I've done in the past," he said on the "Empty Inside" podcast in early 2021. I feel like I can't fulfill the roles I've played and I feel like they're the worst. cheap and embarrassing.

“I did a show that I was in from 13 to 21, and at 15, I was really embarrassed,” McCurdy recalls. "My 15-year-old friends weren't like, 'Oh cool, you're on this Nickelodeon show. "That's embarrassing. And I imagine a completely different experience in acting if you are proud of your role, and if you feel good about it.”
